



SHREE VINAAYAKA CHATURTHEE POOJA
This poojaa is done in the noon hours every year during september 1st or
2nd week- [bhaadrapada(Aavani month in tamil)]in the shukla pakasha on chaturthi day.
Items required are:
1. Turmeric powder
13. Saambraani Powder 2. kumkum
14. Garland 3. Sandal wood Powder 15.
Banana 16. Til oil 4. Flowers
17. milk 5. Rice
18. Coconut 6 Karpooram
19. Akshadai (mix turmeric powder
with rice) 7. Betel leaves,nut
20. Honey 8. Curd
21. Mango leaves 9. Incensed sticks
22. Panchaamrutam
(mixture
of banana,
honey,sugar,milk
and ghee) 10. Lamp 11. Thresd 12. Match box
Important vessels required are
1. Panchapaatram and Uddarini
5. Mahaa aarati plate 2. Kalash
6. Karpoora aarati plate 3. arghyam cup
7. Stand for incensed stricks 4. Plate or taambaalam
8. Seat or aasanam
STEPS involved before Poojaa begins
1.Light the lamp while saying
deepajyotithi param deepajyotitjanaardanaha deepo
mae haratu paapam deepajjyotir namo(o)stu tae || (offer flowers to the lighted lamp)
2.Aachamanam (the second step of any poojaa is Aachamanam. Aachamanam is for inner pruification.
Ladies should say- (om achyutaaya namaha,
om anantaaya namaha, om govindaaya namaha)
Gents should say- (om achyutaaya
namaha, om ananataaya namaha, om govindaaya namaha, kaeshavaa, naaraayanaa, maadhava, govindaa, vishnu, madhusoodaana,
trivikramaa, vaamanaa, shreedharaa, rsheekaeshaa, padmanaabhaa, daamodaraa
3.Guru dhyaanam gurubrahmaa gururugvishnuhu gurur daevo mahaeshwaraha | gurusaakshaat parabrahma tasmai shree guravae namaha

praarthanaa (tap with your folded fingers on theforehead with both hands
5 times and chant the following) shuklaambaradharam vishnum shashivarnam chaturbhujam
| prasannavadanam dhyaayet sarvavighnopashaanataye ||
tadaeva lagnam sudinam tadaeva taaraabalam chandrabalam tadaeva | vidyaabalam
daivabalam tadaeva lakshmeepatae taenghriyugam smaraami ||
5.Praanaayaamaha (means purification of lungs by inhaling fresh air and exhaling impure air form one nostril
to the other) Om bhoohu,om bhuvaha, om suvaha, om mahaha, om janatha, om
tapaha, om sayam ,om tatsaviturvaraenyam, bhargo daevasya dheemahi,dhiyo yonaha prachodayaat | omaapo jyoteerasaha,
amrutam brahma, bhoorbhuvassuvarom ||
6.Sankalpaha (keep flowers and akshadai in your right palm close it and keep it on the left palm and place it over
your right. After saying the mantraa put flowers and akshadai on the god) mamopaatta-samasta
duritakshayadvaaraa- shree paramaeshvarapreetyartham, karishyamaanasya karmanaha nirvighnaena parisamaaptyartham,aadow
vighnaeshvara poojaam karishyae |
7.Aasana Poojaa (mantraa for purifying the seat on which one sits & will perform the poojaa. Sprinkle water on the saet
while saying the following mantraa) pruthvi tvayaa dhrutaa lokaaha
daevee tvayam vishnunaa dhrutaa | tvam cha dhaarayamaam daevi pavitram kuru cha aasanam ||
8.Ghantaa Poojaa (ring the bell and chant the following mantraa. This mantraa is said with the intention of inviting
the daevaas to product us from any destructive forces doing any obstruction to the poojaa)
aagamaartamtu daevaanaam gamanaartamtu rakshasaam | ghantaaravam karomyaadow
daevataahvaana laanchanam ||
9.Kalasha poojaa (fill the vessel panchapatram with water, add flowers into it. Decorate with sandalwood paste and kumkum. close
the mouth with the right hand while saying the mantraa. This mantraa is to assume the holy rivers-ganga, yamuna, godavari,
saraswati narmadaa, sindhu kaavaeri to be present in this water. After saying the mantraa the holy water has to be
sprinkled all over the poojaa room and on self)
gangae cha uamunae chaiva godaavari saraswati | narmadae sindhu kaavaeri jalae(a)smin
sannidhim kuru ||
10.Aatma Poojaa (put akshadai on self)
daeho daevaalayaha proktaha jeevo daevas-sanaatanaha | tyajaedagnyaana nirmaalyam
